I ended up cancelling my pre-order since there seems to be no information about this book’s release anywhere. It seems I will go with Physically Based Rendering: Fundamentals and Applicati, from foreword Reinhard, September “”Any college-level collection syffern in advanced information technology needs this.

Ray tracing from the ground up by Kevin G Suffern. People who bought this also bought. This book describes the step-by-step process of writing a ray tracer from scratch. Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag.
It was supposed to be released July 15th, but Amazon still list it as unpublished. The book is pretty decent as reference, but I personally found myself not using it much for the following reason:. My idea about this is that I am mostly a real-time graphics guy, but wanted to do one ray-tracing project just for the sake of it, grounf diving deep into real-time graphics I’d suggest picking up a book on OpenGL or DirectX as RTR doesn’t cover any of that Yeah definiltly also on the plan: Finally, is the book suitable for one interested in mostly real-time computer graphics?

Thanks a lot for the feedback When I th this project, I had zero knowledge of ray tracing and I found “From the Ground Up” frok mis-leading title for the book because it starts with a pretty complicated pre-made OOP heavy framework with a basic UI etc which while nice, isn’t ideal if you want to learn the basic principles of the ray tracing technique. If you’re interested in real time graphics consider picking up the third edition of Real Time Rendering.
The informative illustrations alone make the book worth purchasing by anyone planning on teaching or understanding more about the essentials of ray tracing. It assumes the reader has just about no knowledge of graphics and at most some understanding of calculus.

This is really helpful but they’re going to add that in the third edition Oh, do you have any idea on when the 3rd edition would be coming out? I have decided to go with scratchpixel.
